Currently, we have three weed sprayers (and several weed wackers) that work for our MSHA weed clean-up fundraiser. This fundraiser brings in approx. $6700 to our organization per year. We are in need of at least one (two would be better) more weed sprayers. To become a weed sprayer, you have to take and pass two open book chemical applicator tests (General and Category 7-Right of Way) from the SD Dept. of Ag. This can be done in Mitchell. The hockey association will pay for your chemical applicator certification.
We spray weeds along the tourist routes three times per year in Mitchell and in some city parking lots. This is a great way to get your hockey hours (all but your mandatory concession hours) in before the season even starts. In 2011 we only had three sprayers. The routes are too big for three people. This fundraiser may be in jeopardy if we cannot find more weed sprayers. This is our third biggest fundraiser, so we need your help to keep this going. Without this fundraiser, player fees are very likely to go up for the coming years. If you are interested in spraying weeds for this fundraiser, please contact Don Everson at 995-0487 or at doneverson@mit.midco.net
Thank you.
On our Mitchell Marlins site, you will see a tab to the far right of the home page that is labeled DIBS. This is where you will claim and check your credit hours. If you sign into the website using your login and password, then click the DIBS tab, you will see how many hours you have worked and what you still need. For some families, there will be only one line that reads 2011/12 Concessions. These are the four required hours that every family needs to work. If you have a new skater this year, that is all the hours you will need. If you have one skater, you will see the 2011/12 Concessions as well as either the 2011/12 Minimites or 2011/12 Credit Hours First Returning Skater. If you are like me and have more kids in hockey, you will see three lines. As you claim dibs and work your hours, the program will record the hours you have worked and subtract that from the total hours you need for each line. When claiming your concessions dibs, please start with the 2011/12 Concessions to get your four required hours claimed first, then work into the other catagories.
If you have already put in hours doing rodeo concessions, weeds, equipment rental or maintenance, I will enter hours as I get them from that particular supervisor. If you are a coach, coordinator or serve on the board or committees, I will also enter those hours as soon as I can.
In order to claim a dibs, just log into the website and click the DIBS tab. To the far right under the responsibility status, click the “Claim Dib Items” next to the session you wish to work hours for. This will take you to a page that will list all the available dibs items that you may claim. When you see one that fits into your schedule, click on the item. This will take you to a page that has more information about that item and if the item is still available. If so, click the “Claim This Dib Item” tab, fill in the information. Where it says "claim dib item on behalf of" please put your skater's name (the one on the account you are working for) here, not yours or it will create another new account!! Then click the “Claim Dib Item” tab. You are done. You will receive an email confirming that you have scheduled a time to work with all the info about that job. If you need to cancel your claim, just go to “Your Claimed Dibs Items” and click the “unclaim” tab.
This is going to be a learning process for everybody, including me. If you have problems, please contact me and I will help as much as I can. I will keep the hard copy of all the credit hours so there is no mix-up at the end of the year. There will be no concessions sign-up sheets in the warming room this year.
If you do have questions or problems, email me at nelgro@santel.net and I will do my best to help. Thanks!! Have a great season. Mary Grosdidier
